July Tasks

Mike Birch

Today we did some bed prep and planted out the Broccoli Raab. We gave them some Alfalfa meal for feeding the microbes and then Clare watered them in. Clare also planted Dill while I continued with bed prep. Bed preperation took us a while, so before we knew it it was time for lunch.

Before lunch, though, we discussed the tough nature of our current bed preperation and talked about how we might change it in the future. Do I hear the sounds of a rototiller in our future?

After lunch was the Zucchini and Cucumber harvest. Both plants are really taking off. Well, the Patty Pans aren't looking as super healthy and happy as our Green Squash's are. The Green and Yellow Squash will have to carry the load.

While Clare was starting the Green Bean harvest I headed out to the Tomato fields to do a little basket weaving when a quick rain storm came up. We ran to the van and headed for home. The rain and the heat should be very good for the tomatoes!

We owe our certifier some money. It is a very reasonable amount and we're happy to pay it. We're just a little late. Sorry MOSA!

I worked on some Arugula seed saving. In addition, I started dechlorinating water for a worm casting tea I'll be making later. Before heading upstairs I seeded 256 Chard and 128 Cardinale Lettuce plants.

I'd like to say thank you to the CSA members for your continued support.

You make it possible for us to grow food.
